Dec. 15th, 2009 07:47 am AVG I sucker punched you in the AVGina, come back, I love you!

I tells ya, I have a talent when it comes to messing up my computer. lol
Well, it's not messed up, per se, but I think I broke AVG 9.0. Me says AVG shouldn't be so sensitive, but after 9.0 came off
the presses, it seems like it's been nothing but a malfunctioning limb on my computer's body.

I solved the problem I was having with web page lag and delays by disabling the link scanner feature in AVG.
I noticed this past week that the Resident Scanner was disabled, without me doing so and there was no direct way to
turn it back on. I'm unsure if recent installation of Avira Premium or Microsoft Security Essentials are possibly to
blame for the resident scanner issue.
I combed the free forums for a fix to this and someone suggested uninstalling AVG, deleting any and all AVG folders
left over, restarting and reinstalling AVG. WELL, after doing that I cannot install 8.5 or 9.0 because it fails every single
time with differing errors.

Went into safe mode to attempt to install AVG that way, but it still failed in both versions.

So, I did a system restore to undo my dumb dumb. AVG 9.0 was back and everything looked normal....until the AVG task bar icon
never loaded as it always does and attempts to open the user interface went ignored by my computer. I can't open it and attempts
to scan files for fun are met with a resounding NO I ARE NOT DoING NUSSING FOR JOO! Out came by comb and I went back to
the free forums.

I tried to repair AVG but the repair failed.

Saw another solution and used the AVG Remover Tool to uninstall AVG 9.0 again. Also used CCleaner to make sure there
was nothing left in the registry for AVG, even checking the registry myself via Regedit. Seemed clean to me, so I downloaded
the full AVG 9.0 installation file and opened it. La la la, going through the custom install motions, attempting to install and it
fails again at the very end....always with 1 error. :|

This is one of the errors I receive:

Local machine: installation failed
Installation:
Error: Action failed for file avgmfx86.sys: starting service....
Invalid parameter specified.

Saw another suggested solution, just for the hell of it and did a rootkit scan, but my system has no infections.
That scan took a while, but Gmer allowed me to save a log to include in the possible support post.

At this moment I am debating on:

A.) Doing another system restore and trying to repair AVG once more and post to the forums for help.
(Or return AVG to its working condition and ignore the deactivated resident shield.)

B.) System restore may not be able to fix this, so I should stop attempts to fix this and jump right to the forum to post for help.

C.) Do without AVG until I can get home this month and grab my Windows CD to do a format and re-installation of the OS.
(This option may not be so bad, I haven't done a format in years.)

I am currently using Avira Premium until the sub runs out in February, so I have some time to fix this problem, but being without AVG
makes me feel a little vulnerable. lol I want to continue using it after Avira runs out. Avira has also been flagging Avast
update files as trojans, which I am 99% sure are false positives. :/

I still have Adblock, NoScript and Avast! as a back up as well.
